How deep are the roots of slavery in Kindred and Sing, Unburied, Sing?

A three piece series written for my third year English literature module ‘Representing Race in Contemporary America’. The articles take a look into the established aesthetic traditions of writing on race and the way they have transformed over time. From motifs of slavery to an analysis of literary mixed race couples, the articles analyse Jesmyn ward and Octavia Butler’s writing styles and intentions.
